RAM Memory

Has your computer started working sloppy or slowly? Did you get to the conclusion that it is necessary to upgrade your RAM memory? Don’t be afraid, for the process of upgrading your RAM memory you won’t need any special equipment or any special training. It is just necessary to know what is inside of your computer. In the following article we will explain the process of upgrading your RAM memory. Before you open your computer you need to take some precautions, as in every other electronic device.

How to Upgrade Your Ram Memory

  1. The first thing you need to do is check the instructions you got with your computer. Find out what type of motherboard is in your computer. Based on this information you can find out how many RAM slots your motherboard has, and what type the RAM memory is. Pay attention to the compatibility of the RAM memory that you want to buy and the type of RAM memory your motherboard supports.
  2. Turn off your computer and leave it for a few minutes so the condensers empty.
  3. Now you need to disconnect all peripheral devices on your computer like the monitor, mouse, keyboard etc.
  4. Unscrew the bolts that hold the lid of your computer and lay the computer on the floor.
  5. Ground yourself with the computer. If you have an anti-static glove wear it. The other way is to touch the metal part of the housing. This needs to be done to avoid the build up of static electricity on your body that could cause a static discharge that is harmful for the electronics.
  6. Pull out the cards or any other internal component that doesn’t allow access to the RAM memory.
  7. Grab your memory module on the ends in a way you don’t touch the chips or pins.
  8. Unlock the fuses of the RAM slots on the motherboard if they exist and slowly place the memory module in the slot.
  9. Now slowly press the RAM module. When the module comes in an appropriate position, lock the fuses. You can gently pull the module to see if it is in a good position.
  10. When you are sure that the module is in place, you can reattach all internal components.
  11. Attach the peripheral devices, but don’t attach the lid of the computer yet.
  12. Turn the computer on.
  13. When the system is up check how much RAM memory the computer has. You can do that by clicking the right mouse button on My Computer and choosing Properties.
  14. If your computer hasn’t detected enough RAM memory, turn off your computer and do the whole process again. If this doesn’t solve the problem, call an IT technician.

Advice

  • During the extraction ofUpgrade ram memory internal components you have to remember where they were placed so you could place them back later.
  • If your computer is under warrantee, opening the computer and installing new components usually ends it.
  • The best thing would be to lay your computer on a floor without a carpet to avoid static electricity. If you can, place it on a desk.
  • If you didn’t fully understand these instructions or you are not very skillful with this, it is best to consult a qualified IT technician that will install the RAM memory instead of you.

Warnings

  • Don’t press the memory module too hard during the inputting in the slot. If the module won’t fit nicely it is a great chance that you turned it the wrong way or that it is not the right type. By applying to much force you can damage the module and the motherboard.
